Facial plastic surgery is the branch of plastic surgery which visibly alters the
appearance of the face and its components. The alterations may be functional which
is frequently the case with nasal
surgery. Functional improvements such as correcting a droopy nasal tip or
straightening a crooked nose also provide the cosmetic benefit of a more aesthetically
pleasing nose. Otoplasty
is a cosmetic procedure which corrects ears that protrude too far.
Recently, injectable agents have been made available for the treatment of wrinkles.
These include the popular Botox
for fine wrinkling and injectable human collagen
to fill out certain areas such as the lips. These procedures have the advantages
of being done in the office with little or no anesthetic, no hospital stay and
immediate return to normal activities. |
